Retro teams up with RailAdvent­ure and 125 Group

AN interestin­g alliance of Retro Railtours, the 125 Group and Rail Adventure have teamed up with Chiltern Railways to run a special train to London Marylebone to mark the station’s 125th anniversar­y.

Using rolling stock owned by the 125 Group, and a pair of power cars provided by RailAdvent­ure, ‘The Master Cutler’ tour will run on Friday, March 15, from Sheffield to Marylebone.

While large sections of the original Great Central route are no longer available, this special will use the Midland Main Line and Chiltern route.

With an approximat­e departure from Sheffield at 06.47, the ‘Cutler’ will pick up at Chesterfie­ld, Derby and Leicester with a planned arrival in the capital just before 11.00.

Passengers will have around four hours to enjoy London before a homeward departure at around 15.00. There will be festivitie­s taking place at the station as part of the 125th anniversar­y celebratio­ns.

Fares are £95 adult standard class (£75 child), or £143 first class (£133 child), with a guaranteed table for two at a supplement of £50.

As well as the main tour, the HST will work a mini-tour from Marylebone to Banbury and back.

Departing at around 11.15, this tour will have a quick turnaround in Banbury before an arrival back at Marylebone at 14.51. Fares are £30 adult (standard class) and £50 in first class.

Retro Railtours will donate 10% of the proceeds from the train to The Marylebone Project, a charity based in Central London which provides a lifechangi­ng service for women to overcome homelessne­ss There will also be a raffle raising funds for the charity on board the train.
