GMB star mugged in late-night race attack
GOOD Morning Britain star Noel Phillips says he was racially attacked, mugged and spat on in the early hours yesterday.
The programme’s North America correspondent said he was left shaken by the assault, but was not injured.
A teenager was arrested by two police officers who intervened.
Mr Phillips, 30, tweeted: ‘I was mugged, racially assaulted, and spat on yesterday on a busy street in Central London. I’m OK. Just shaken.’
The former Sky News journalist posted a photograph of a man being held down by two officers.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of robbery and for a racially aggravated public order offence after comments were made.’
The incident took place at around 2.15am in New Oxford Street.
Well-wishers from the television industry took to social media to offer support to Mr Phillips.
Good Morning Britain editor Neil Thompson said: ‘How truly awful, just dreadful. Really glad you and the police got the scumbag who attacked you. Hope you’re feeling OK?’
