I’ve divorced my real-life Bobby Kennedy, says Scots actress who played Marilyn

SHE has forged a career playing tragic Hollywood idol Marilyn Monroe.

But Broadway star Erin Gavin has revealed her love affair with her own Bobby Kennedy has ended in divorce.

Thrice-married Monroe infamously shared illicit dalliances in the 1960s with US President John F Kennedy and his younger brother Robert.

In a bizarre parallel, Glaswegian actress Ms Gavin first fell for co-star Sean Scott McCracken as he played Bobby to her Marilyn in a US stage show about

‘We weren’t happy, it’s time to let go’

Monroe’s complex love life. However, admitting their threeyear marriage finished on July 15, she said: ‘When you no longer make each other happy, it’s time to let go.

‘We’d known each other for nine years. Over time you change, but sometimes you don’t grow together, you grow apart. That’s really what happened.’

In recognitio­n of Ms Gavin’s showbiz career, she has been inducted onto the Wall of Fame at Glasgow music venue the Barrowland Ballroom.

In the wake of the split, Ms Gavin has been home visiting family. Now she’s planning to spend more of her time in Scotland. She said: ‘I was at the Cannes film festival and then the Grand Prix at Monaco and then I came home.

‘Home’s the best out of them all. When I’m here, I stay with my family.

‘I’ve got a wee granny flat at my mum’s in Pollokshie­lds.’

Ms Gavin has played Monroe for nine years in a string of stage shows – including runs on Broadway and the West End – as well as TV shows and a podcast.

Her latest venture is reworking the Hollywood legend’s greatest hits in a collaborat­ive album with the band Roxy Music, due to be released next year.
