In The Compass: The Understory (BBC World Service, 9am & 8pm), author and environmentalist Isabelle Legeron is joined by scientist Richard Bardgett for an exploration of soil.

The Exchange (Radio 4, 8pm) features a discussion between two people who grew up in strict religious communities and decided to leave, although one has since returned.
