As we return to the idyllic Cornish village of Portwenn for the tenth and final season, it's all change for Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes). The GP working life is no more – at least for the moment – after his shock exit from the medical profession at the end of the previous series.

Instead he is now a family man, bringing up a son and baby daughter with wife Louisa (Caroline Catz, right with Clunes). But the local residents are campaigning for him to don his stethoscope once more, and the arrival of troubled divorcee Abigail (Fay Ripley) also demands Martin's medical attention as he is convinced that she has problems only he can help her with.

With the heartwarming mix of comedy and drama as successful as ever, sad fans can take heart that the series is destined to leave on a high note, ending with a Christmas special. ★★★★☆
