‘Quackery’ that worked for us
In response to Eve Simmons’ article about quack remedies used in childbirth, as a retired nurse and midwife with 33 years experience, when I first started training we had pain clinics with acupuncture in general nursing and moxibustion for breech presentations. These were offered then as an alternative when medical interventions did not succeed, and from my experience did achieve some success. Please don’t knock these methods as it encourages the clients to be proactive and to make them feel they were being listened to and given old-fashioned time and good quality of care.
