West must find a way to end this mad war
Peter Hitchens appears to be the only journalist in the mainstream media who is talking any sense on the Ukraine conflict.
Concerted efforts should be made to bring this madness to an end. Instead, the UK, along with the rest of Nato, appears to be merely adding fuel to the fire.
The result could be years more bloody conflict. There really must be a better way.

Last week Peter Hitchens said peace talks must end the war in Ukraine, but how?
The Second World War only ended at the doors of the
Reichstag in Europe and with nuclear bombs on Japan.
Only when you’re beaten do you wish to talk. Whoever thinks they’re winning in Ukraine will wish to carry on.

While Boris Johnson says we are paying for our energy bills while the Ukrainians pay with their blood, he forgets it was their choice and we are paying several times over with money we don’t have.
It is easy for politicians to start wars, not so easy to stop them. But it is the poorest who pay the ultimate price.

I thought my views on Ukraine were unique, so I was pleased to read Peter Hitchens last week.
Let’s be blunt: the UK and the
West are at war with Russia. We have supplied weapons, armaments, equipment, and training – in fact everything short of frontline personnel. I’m certainly no fan of Putin and have every sympathy for the people of Ukraine, but it’s a war the West can’t win, either militarily or economically.
Stuart Marshall, York
Is Peter Hitchens really siding with Macron in that the war in Ukraine will only end if we give in to Putin? William Napier,
Newcastle upon Tyne
Peter Hitchens said that this long-protracted war in Ukraine was ‘futile’ and not very good for anyone. Tell that to the Ukrainian leader and those on the front line.
Mr Hitchens then claimed that the West’s support for Ukraine and its right to defend itself was a populist mistake.
Once again I believe the very intelligent Mr Hitchens has overcomplicated this issue.
Mick Warren, Poole
I cannot follow Mr Hitchens’ logic with regard to the war in Ukraine.
There was no justification for the peace to be shattered in the first place.
Putin decided to wage an illegal and immoral war on a peaceful neighbour for no other reason than to expand the Russian empire.
