Robinson’s rocket sinks Spiders
DUNDEE produced a commanding display to beat Queen’s Park at Dens Park.
Zach Robinson netted twice in the first half — including a wonder goal — with Zak Rudden wrapping up the victory after the break.
The result moves Dundee up into third place in the Championship, with the Spiders dropping to fourth.
The first opportunity of the game came in the sixth minute when Queen’s Park’s Grant Savoury burst down the right before cutting the ball back for skipper Simon Murray but the striker’s shot was blocked by Dundee’s Lee Ashcroft.
The Dark Blues took the lead in the 27th minute. A ball over the top saw Robinson race in goal, with the on-loan AFC Wimbledon striker bundled over by
Eze with referee Grant Irvine awarding a penalty and booking the Queen’s defender.
Robinson picked himself up and calmly sent
Ferrie the wrong way from the spot.
Dundee extended their lead in the 44th minute, with Robinson hitting an unstoppable 30-yarder that flew high past Ferrie and into the back of the net.
The Dark Blues then made it 3-0 in the 70th minute when sub Rudden slammed the ball home from close range.
A delighted Dundee boss Gary Bowyer said: ‘It is always good to win at home in front of your fans.’
Spiders boss Owen Coyle insisted the scoreline flattered Dundee, saying: ‘It was disappointing in terms of losing the game. You will never see another 3-0 game like that where the opposition could have scored six or seven goals in the game.’
