Pandemic saved Gerrard at Ibrox... but he’ll be lucky to avoid Villa axe

-

IT’S easy to forget Steven Gerrard was cruising for a bruising at Rangers before Covid kicked in. He was on a one-way ticket to his P45 that season.

For those who saw his body language that night at Tynecastle in February 2020 after a Scottish Cup loss to Hearts, it was a surprise he was still in position the following Monday.

It is hard to see him pull through this time round, though. Even with a draw against Manchester City last night. The vultures are gathering around Aston Villa.

While nothing can be taken for granted in this chaotic world, there doesn’t appear to be another global pandemic to save the day either.

And no Michael Beale. The longer things go on, the more you think all those people who called wee Mick the brains of the operation behind 55 and all that were right.
