Gio: Players must get up to speed for Celtic tests

RANGERS manager Giovanni van Bronckhors­t last night expressed his frustratio­n at collapsing against Celtic from dead-ball situations he had spoken about pre-match — and warned his players that it can never happen again. The Dutchman saw his side taken apart 4-0 at Parkhead after gifting early goals to Liel Abada and Jota from a throw-in and a free-kick.

Abada scored again from a move that started with a throw-in before the break, with substitute David Turnbull capitalisi­ng on a dreadful mistake from keeper Jon McLaughlin to wrap up the scoring near the end.

Van Bronckhors­t, though, was alarmed by how similar the game was to the three-goal thrashing suffered on league business at Parkhead in February — when Ange Postecoglo­u’s side were also three-up at half-time.

‘You know the start you have is very important,’ he said. ‘Also, how the game will develop.

‘We knew the threat they have with quickly-taken throw-ins and also free-kicks, and I think we were exposed two times, which gave two goals away.

‘For me, that is very disappoint­ing because we knew they were going to do it and, still, we weren’t prepared enough.
