Developed by the legendary breeder Ernst Pagels, this lovely plant has drooping, rose-coloured flowerhead­s held on 5ft stems.

3 SINENSIS ‘GRACILLIMU­S’

One of the finest for autumn colour with red-tinged flowers and foliage that turns golden yellow when temperatur­es fall.

4 SINENSIS ‘KLEINE FONTAINE’

Making a sizeable clump of narrow silver leaves, it has reddish brown, tassel-like flowers on 5ft stems that fade to white.

5 SINENSIS ‘MORNING LIGHT’

Bred in Japan in the 19th Century, it makes a 5ft-tall clump of narrow green and cream striped leaves topped with red flowers.
