Italy poised forfar-Right female PM

-

VOTERS in Italy were going to the polls today with far-Right leader Giorgia Meloni widely tipped to become the country’s first female Prime Minister.

An election win for her Brothers of Italy party would deliver to Rome the most Right-wing government since wartime fascist leader Benito Mussolini, according to her opponents. But Meloni’s Eurosceptic’s ‘Italians First’ message and criticism of Brussels has attracted millions worried about the economy and spiralling energy costs.

Ms Meloni – a 45-year-old single mother who has questioned LGBT and abortion rights – is offering widespread tax cuts.

She has also called for a naval blockade to stop migrants leaving Libya for Italy.
