Amid all the gloom and worrying geopolitical events at the moment, plain, simple, laugh-out-loud silliness has never been so precious. And no one does that better than Greg Davies (right, centre) and the participants in his deliriously dumb comedy game show, in which there’s no predicting what each round’s challenge will be.

As a new series gets going, an outstanding line-up of stand-ups are in the hot seats, including Sarah Millican and Dara O Briain, Scots comedian Fern Brady, Edinburgh award-winner John Kearns, and Munya Chawawa, all with their eyes on the prize of becoming Taskmaster champion. Plus let’s not forget Alex Horne, Davies’s assistant and the butt of his jokes, who for many fans is the best thing in the show, thanks to his quick-fire, eccentric wit. ★★★★★
