We despaired at plunging standards in state sector
IONA Larg decided to remove her children Ben, 17, Robyn, 15, and Lily, 13, from their local high school after despairing over its falling standards.
She said: ‘We live on a Scottish island and our local state school was under-performing. It failed to support Ben’s dyslexia and his education suffered. He was also badly bullied.
‘I needed to pull him out of school, but it was a really difficult decision.’
After attempting home-schooling, Mrs Larg realised she lacked both time and experience to teach her children. So in 2017 she paid to enrol her eldest son at online school King’s InterHigh, founded in 2005 for pupils aged 7-18. She later enrolled her younger children there too.
She said: ‘Ben and Robyn surf competitively and are now able to study on the road. Digital schooling gives us more flexibility.’
‘I know a lot of other people who have moved their children to King’s InterHigh – more and more parents are trying this new digital option.’
