‘A wild time!’ Kinnock grandson’s delight at gender change surgery

ONE of former Labour leader Neil Kinnock’s grandchildren has undergone major transition surgery to change gender.

Milo Kinnock, who was born as Camilla and revealed earlier this year that he was non-binary, has had a double mastectomy.

It is the only gender reassignment operation that Milo, 22, plans to undergo.

His 80-year-old grandfather, Lord Kinnock, spoke of his pride last week, telling The Mail on Sunday that Milo had been a ‘really clear voice for civil rights and good treatment for people’.

Milo shared a picture on social media from his hospital bed last week, along with a post which read: ‘This is a wild time. Yesterday I finally got my top surgery, something I’ve dreamed of for a long time. Can promise you it looks good.

‘Couldn’t be happier – looking forward to a glass of bubbles in a few weeks’ time.’

His father Stephen Kinnock, Labour MP for Aberavon, said last night: ‘Milo has wanted to do this for a long time and he couldn’t be happier that it has finally happened.

‘The operation went really well, and he’s back home now and on great form. Helle and I and the whole family are so proud of Milo, whose strength and bravery never cease to amaze.’

Milo’s mother is the former Danish prime minister Helle ThorningSchmidt. This week she won a Danish Rainbow Award, crowning her ‘ally of the year’, while Milo was nominated for his activism.

Ms Thorning-Schmidt said the nomination made her ‘so proud’.

Milo added: ‘I have also been nominated for a rainbow award as activist of the year, in distinguished company of my sweet mother, clearly my best ally.

‘It makes me so proud to use my voice. I hope you will vote for both of us, we would be very happy!’

Milo has previously spoken out on national television in Denmark about his transition, telling the DR1 channel: ‘It just felt just right to me and it has really given me a lot of freedom.

‘I am so lucky to have a lot of friends, a partner and my family who support me and have always backed me up on everything.’

Lord Kinnock, who was Labour leader for nine years before becoming a European Commissioner, added: ‘We’re a very close family who cherish him and wish him all the best.’
