THE BIG QUESTIONS

-

“This is the voice of the Mysterons!” was a phrase that terrified me when I watched Captain Scarlet on TV in my youth. But whose voice was it? – R

The Mysterons were aliens in the ’60s children’s TV show. Scarlet leads a team on Mars trying to locate the source of unidentified radio signals detected by the Spectrum security organisation on Earth.

The signals, starting with “This is the voice of the Mysterons”, was voiced by actor Donald Gray.

My grandson is infatuated with Star Wars and told me a fascinating little nugget about one of its stars, Harrison Ford. Apparently he was a roadie at one point in his career. Did he work with any famous band? – L

In the ’60s and working as a carpenter, Ford was trying to get into Hollywood when a friend asked if he would like to become part of the stage crew for a band that was about to break into the big time – The Doors.

Ford also spent time with the band as a camera operator on the band’s 1968 concert film, Feast Of Friends.

Of the band’s rock ’n’ roll lifestyle, Ford later laughed: “I thought I was cool, but I couldn’t keep up with those guys. It was too much.”

Who was the heaviest person ever? – M

That was John Brower Minnoch (1941-83), who, at his heaviest, tipped the scales at exactly 100 stone (635kg).

He also held the record for largest difference in weight between a married couple when he wed his wife, Janette, in 1978. At 7st 12lb (50kg) she was an eighth of his weight.

Currently, the heaviest human is Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, who weighs 96st (610kg).
