Point keeps topsix hopes alive for the Buddies

- By Neil Robertson SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

While Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin was furious with the penalty award, his opposite number Stephen Robinson insisted his side deserved to take at least a point from the game.

He said: “We don’t have an analyst and don’t get the opportunity to see it back.

“I was 50 yards away so it’s very difficult to comment. I know we don’t get many so I’m very, very pleased.

“It’s fine margins in football but anyone who says we didn’t deserve a point today, I’m not too sure. We deserved at least a point and should have gone on to win the game.”

Robinson was disappointed with the start his side made in the game but was delighted with their response.

The result saw St Mirren drop to seventh but he insists their top six dream is still within their sights.

Robinson added: “We just didn’t start well enough. It was very similar to the Motherwell game unfortunately.

“But the reaction after that, credit to the players. It is difficult because you just turn over Dundee United, St Mirren can’t do that.

“But our reaction after we went 1-0 down, I thought we had numerous chances which we didn’t take.

“We were brave and kept pressing high up the pitch.

“We got our rewards with the penalty but had another goal disallowed which was disappointing.

“I know it was very tight when the lines were drawn. We had numerous chances to go and win the game so the reaction was fantastic.

“The start was disappointing as a collective and a group – we know we can’t start games like that.

“We didn’t run beyond them, we didn’t turn them around, that’s our DNA and we didn’t do that to start with.

“Sometimes that happens for whatever reason. But as I say, the reaction to it was fantastic.

“We have gained a point on people above us. Obviously a couple of teams have won as well.

“It is still very much in our hands. We have Livingston next at home and an opportunity to take three points.

“When you go 1-0 down that early it makes it an uphill task.

“Dundee United camp in then and try to hit you on the counter-attack.

“It takes good teams to break people down when they have nine men behind the ball.

“We broke them down several times but didn’t take our chances but

I can only credit the players, the fans for their support throughout the game.

“We just missed that finishing touch.

“The reaction was very good, the start was poor.”
