Kushboo, founded by vegan entrepreneur Sarwat Jaleel, is a Lancashire-based, multi-award-winning soap and skincare business, producing vegan and natural products that are also SLS-, paraben- and plastic-free.

Sarwat tells us more about her brand: “I have combined my Indian heritage and the knowledge and skills handed down from my parents to create natural, vegan, ethical, handmade and cruelty-free soap bars and skincare products.”

“During a long stay in hospital, I had a ‘lightbulb’ moment after using a small bar of soap brought in by my husband. Inhaling the beautiful aromas of essential oils, I immediately felt my spirits lifted. The scent took me back to a happy childhood memory, and it was there that I decided that as a way of giving back to society, I would begin to make the very best soap I could for a local homeless charity. I believe soap is a form of dignity that should be available to every single person despite their circumstances.”

“After trialling numerous soaps, I was inundated by people who wanted to buy them for themselves. Word-of-mouth spread and led to a distinguished art gallery wanting to stock the soaps, which really started the whole journey for me of turning my passion into a full-time business. I’m thrilled that the original seed of inspiration has grown with my products, now stocked in over 200 retailers in the UK and abroad.”

“My soaps are a combination of my rich Indian heritage, creating a finished product only from ingredients offered by nature. Combining the beautiful word ‘Kushboo’ from my mothertongue, my beauty and wellbeing family secrets and knowledge of botanics and the properties of herbs and spices are all brought together into simple, yet beautiful products. Having built a business on the original ‘giving’ concept has allowed me to expand on that mission and I now support three separate charities, donating one bar of soap to a vulnerable person for every one sold.”
