We chat to Laurie Mias, the founder of refillable beauty brand, Mono Skincare
Hi Laurie! Why did you start MONO?
I wanted to stop single-use plastic in the skincare industry and offer natural and micro-plastic-free formulas that actually work. To rewrite the ‘codes', as with any widespread change, it requires an innovation, something that says, ‘We are drastically different', and a market to adopt this innovation, of course. I believe the time is right for such a disruption — we must stop single-use plastic in the beauty industry.
What makes you different to other beauty companies out there?
We are unique in the industry because we are the first and only brand to offer skincare tablets. It has never been done before and we patented this innovation worldwide in 2020 for the next 20 years.
We are also different in our formulation approach — we use 100 per cent natural ingredients (which is very rare in cosmetics), no micro-plastic (meaning no PAA, no carbomers… also, very rare in skincare, sadly) and we are cosmeceuticals: meaning our ingredients are pharmaceutical grade (pure) and in higher concentration to actually work.
Talk us through your latest product, Makeup Meltaway.
It is the first make up remover that comes in a tablet form, as do all our products; it's forever refillable and completely natural. It removes all traces of make-up, even waterproof mascara, and leaves the skin moisturised and silky soft. The scent of freshly squeezed orange juice is also delicious and very enjoyable.
