Dr Lisa Das, consultant gastroenterologist at Onewelbeck, shares her weekly self-care routine…

LOOK IN THE MIRROR ‘Yellowing eyes may signify liver problems. Plus, a pale lower inner eyelid could be a sign of iron deficiency anaemia.’

CHECK SKIN AND NAILS ‘Look for rashes and moles. If both palms are redder than usual, this may signify too much alcohol use. Nails can become brittle with low levels of calcium, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins or folic acid.’

MEASURE YOUR WAIST ‘A simple check of your waist circumference can be indicative of heart disease. For women, anything over 88cm is a warning sign.’

TIME YOUR TOILET HABITS ‘Generally, one should be finished within 15 minutes. A lot of pushing can hint at constipation or pelvic muscle issues. The feeling of never being completely finished should prompt a visit to your doctor.’
