FACT OR FICTION?

GOING OUT WITH WET HAIR WILL GIVE YOU A COLD

-

Many of us will have been told that going out in the cold with wet hair, or not wearing a coat, will mean that you will catch a cold, but this is not true! Colds are due to viral infections, and it may be that the idea came about because colds are more common in the winter months. You get them by breathing in the virus that someone else has sneezed or coughed out when you are in close contact with them, or by touching something like a doorknob that has the virus on it (from someone wiping their nose with their hand and then touching the doorknob), then touching your own mouth or nose.

It might feel cold to go out with wet hair, but it won’t give you a cold.
