A functional training workout with a side order of DOMS

WHAT IS IT?

It’s working out made simple, but with far from simple results. The class works in a circuit format using bodyweight exercises with no kit, as well as on the rig, parallel bars and equipment like speed ladders and hurdles. It’s high intensity and full-on, like a lot of functional training classes – but this one challenges your strength in ways we haven’t experienced in many group exercise classes. Calisthenics moves, like dips on the parallel bars and pull- ups (assisted with bands, if necessary), will leave you aching for days.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Working in a HIIT format is great for fitness and fat-burn, while dynamic exercises like jumping lunges and box jumps will boost power output. But our favourite part? Training our strength with pull-ups. By the end of the sequence, just two reps sent our arms into a quivering mess, leaving us certain we’d worked to our max.

HOW HARD IS IT?

Really hard. The trainers leave no stone unturned – we’re talking strength, power, muscular endurance and fitness all in one class, which isn’t easy to find. Throw into the mix a super-fast pace and minimum rest periods and let’s just say you’ll be a tad sweaty by the end.

WHERE IS IT?

Third Space, Tower Bridge, London. Membership costs £125 per month or £84 for the weekend. Go to thirdspace.london for more information.
