You Can DO IT!
Here’s how you can commit to healthful eating in 2023
It’s always around this time that people try to start eating healthier—an admirable goal, for sure! But sometimes sticking to a wholesome diet can be challenging if you try to make a big change all at once. Luckily, there are simple ways to make incremental tweaks to your dining habits that are effective in the long run. Start here:
1. LOAD UP ON PRODUCE. Fruits and veggies are bursting with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which are key for reducing the risk of many diseases and age-related illnesses. Making produce a mainstay in your diet can also help you lose weight—fruits and veggies contain fiber and water, so they’ll fill you up with very few calories.
2. NEVER SHOP HUNGRY. “Having a healthy meal or snack before you shop can help to quell cravings and keep chips from landing in your cart,” says Denise, who opts for a small apple and a handful of raw almonds.
3. KNOW WHEN TO CHOOSE ORGANIC.
Not all foods need to be bought organic, but some definitely should be. Here’s what you should buy organic: strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, grapes, peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes, celery, potatoes and sweet bell peppers.
4. MAKE FIBER YOUR FRIEND. No two ways about it: Fiber is king when it comes to clean and healthy eating. It will keep you full and satisfied for longer so that you’re not craving snacks all day!
Give these suggestions and the advice in the following pages a try, and you’ll be eating right, sticking with it and feeling the best you’ve felt in no time!
