Try these tricks to save on produce

-

“I always price-match, even on groceries. Big-box stores like Walmart and Target will match their competitors’ pricing, especially on fresh groceries, where they match the price per pound. Another tip: A 5-pound bag of apples might actually weigh more than that— you never know until you weigh it. Food producers are required to fill these bags so they contain at least the weight listed on the label, but sometimes you’ll get more than the bag indicates. And this can save you quite a bit: If you buy a bag of potatoes that’s labeled 8 pounds but it actually weighs 9 pounds, you’re getting an additional 13 percent worth of potatoes—for free!” —Joanie Demer
