Bask in bliss in Barbados
White-sand beaches, calm blue waters and warm breezes are what await you in this tropical oasis
Tucked away in the Atlantic Ocean, just east of the Caribbean Sea, lies the sundrenched paradise Barbados. Boasting marvelous marine life, lush gardens, fascinating historical sites and more than 70 miles of pristine beaches, this tropical haven truly has it all.
Begin your day by basking in the sun at Dover Beach, a spot revered for its laid-back atmosphere, amenities and picturesque backdrop. “There are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to rent for a small cost, but we were happy under the palm trees,” says SevyChan on TripAdvisor.com. “Occasionally, you’ll be treated to views of sea turtles coming up for air among the waves!”
To admire the island’s beauty below the water, take a 30-minute drive to Folkestone Marine Park. “We saw trumpet fish, a spotted moray, angelfish, squirrel fish, and parrot fish of all kinds,” says a reviewer from Texas.
“We swam with such an incredible abundance of marine life!”
After toweling off, make the 20-minute drive to tour the great house, gardens and distillery of the historic St. Nicholas Abbey ($35 per adult). Guests can watch a home movie from 1935, explore the museum and enjoy a complimentary drink of rum punch. “If you are interested in Bajan plantation history, love antiques or want to see spectacular gardens or taste and buy some of the best rum on the island, then make this your destination!” says Marilyn and Gary on TripAdvisor.com. “Located high on a hill, you also get a terrific view of the ruggedly beautiful east coast of the island!”
End your day by taking a stroll through Pelican Village in Bridgetown to buy locally crafted souvenirs, savor some of the delicious cuisine and relax and view the magnificent sunset.
