“My Aunt Vicki was quite spunky for 79, so when her Parkinson’s began advancing and her unsteady gait caused her to have to stay home more often, she became cranky, always complaining about the pitfalls of growing old.

“But, one evening during my nightly call to her, I noted a pep to her voice, a lift in her spirit, even a flirty tone. When I inquired about her sounding different, she simply replied, ‘I’d forgotten how young a woman can feel when she’s swept up in a romance.’

“Curious about her new man, I went to see her the next day. I found her sitting in front of the TV, a bowl of popcorn on her lap and a stack of DVDs on her coffee table. Every one was a classic romantic movie. My nerves instantly relaxed as I stifled a giggle.
