Grapes protect against sunburn

-

Snacking on grapes can increase your skin’s natural protection against the sun, say University of Alabama at Birmingham researchers. In their study, subjects who ate 21⁄4 cups of any kind of grapes daily for two weeks could spend 75% more time in the sun before developing a sunburn. The researchers explain that grapes are rich in polyphenols, plant compounds known to bolster the skin’s natural defenses against UV radiation. While they saw significant change in natural skin protection, the researchers also noted that UV exposure still causes DNA damage and advise using a topical sunscreen along with eating grapes for added protection.
