Taking a walk at time boosts cancer protection
While exercise any time of day reduces cancer risk, a study in the International Journal of Cancer found that volunteers who were physically active between 8 am and 10 am enhanced that benefit with a 25% lower risk of developing breast tumors. The researchers explain that earlier exercise optimizes the body’s circadian clock to boost nighttime production of melatonin, the hormone that not only regulates sleep, but has been shown to prevent cell damage and stop cellular processes that aid in tumor growth.
