First For Women

Purr-fect timing

-

“Tears pricked my eyes as I peered up into the 40-foot elm tree in my front yard. ‘Come down, Sassy!’ I pleaded to my 5-month-old calico, shaking her treat bag. She had to be hungry. She’d been stuck up there for a day after scooting past me when I opened the front door. Just thinking of her scared, starving and alone broke my heart. I had no idea how I’d ever get her down.

“Just then, a young man jogged by, slowing when he saw me. When I explained about Sassy, he hoisted himself up the tree. ‘I’m afraid of heights,’ he panted, seeing her near the top. ‘But I’ve got a kitty cat too.’ He made his way up and, after several tense minutes, he finally came down with Sassy safely in the crook of his arm. “‘How can I ever thank you?’ I choked.

“He beamed at Sassy who gave him a sweet meow and replied, ‘I think she just did.’”
