Another win for vitamin D
That vitamin D supplement you take every day could be giving you added protection—against cancer. So say Harvard researchers, who examined data from 25,000 subjects and found that those at normal weight who took 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily for an average of 5.3 years were nearly 20% less likely than those who received a placebo to have an advanced cancer—one that spread from the original tumor site or proved fatal. In their study published in JAMA Network Open, the scientists explain that vitamin D seems to change the way tumors behave, affecting the biology of their cells and making them less aggressive.
