ABOUT THE ARTIST
Halima Washington-dixon, originally from California, holds a BA in visual arts and art history from Occidental College in Los Angeles and an MFA in painting and drawing from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Working mostly from her home studio in Suffolk, England, she occasionally works in plein air in the beautiful countryside near her home. She paints almost every day, is always creating and has been painting professionally since 2006. Washington-dixon’s art is exhibited in The Cotswolds by the John Noott Galleries, who also show her work every spring at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park, London. Her smaller works can also be found at The Morningside Gallery, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Washington-dixon bases her paintings on her continued search for comfort, nostalgia and a sense of place. Though she paints many subjects, in recent years she has been drawn to still life painting. She is inspired by garden flowers, decorative vases, patterned cloth, lovely fruit and
capturing the essence or feeling of home.
The vibrancy and thickness of her paint is a reflection of her feelings toward the subject and the paint itself. By piling on the paint and moving it around in different directions, she brings the subject to life. Most of Washington-dixon’s paintings are completed in a single sitting so they remain fresh and immediate.
Washington-dixon’s upcoming projects include providing high quality gicleé prints from her original works and producing online tutorials. In the future, she plans to open a studio gallery, where she can also teach classes and two-day workshops.
