Silver Anniversary
Twenty-five years ago, International Artist Publishing founder Vincent Miller had a vision. Riding on the wave of success of his magazine Australian Artist for more than a decade, he wanted to bring art to people across the world. So somebody in the United States would have the opportunity to learn about artists in Australia; European artists could learn from artists in South America—and so on and so forth. What blossomed from that vision is a magazine centered on global connection. The very magazine you hold in your hands today.
Quite a lot has changed in the last two and a half decades, and yet, many things have remained the same. Among these, of course, is our goal of sharing the techniques and artistic practices of artists on a global scale. And what’s changed? Well, one of the biggest things that stands out in my mind are the many important relationships we’ve forged over the years with our regular artist contributors and art organizations, from the esteemed Portrait Society of America to the incomparable Harley Brown. And every single person in between. It truly is the remarkable artists who contribute to this magazine that makes it what it is—your expertise, your support and your willingness to share your knowledge with fellow artists.
As we look to the past and future, I’m overjoyed to bring to you this special 25th Anniversary Issue. As you explore these pages, you’ll find several special features, including the story behind the creation of International Artist written by Vincent himself, and a wonderful Q&A with our long-time contributors James Gurney, Harley Brown, John Lovett and Richard Robinson. We even caught up with the cover artist of the very first issue, Alvaro Castagnet.
In this issue, and every issue, we’re celebrating that enduring spirit of connection, encouragement and growth. Here’s to another beautiful 25 years! As always, happy painting!
Warmly,
Alyssa M. Tidwell Editor atidwell@internationalartist.com
