“Keep the intensity of your long ride relatively low, say at around five out of 10 in terms of perceived effort, and build the time on the bike by 20 minutes every week,” suggests Wakefield. “In six weeks you will be able to ride for 3.5 hours, in three months you will be able to ride for 5.5 hours, which is plenty long enough for a good last training ride before the big 100-mile ride.”
