ROSE XEON CWX 3000

-

The CWX is based around Rose’s Xeon CW aero road design, but adds thru-axle-equipped disc stopping power combined with its wind tunnel-tuned shape and racing geometry. Its steep frame angles and 1009mm wheelbase make for a competition-focused rig.

This Rose feels quick from the first turn of the pedals, its lowish weight increases the feeling of speed and over flat terrain the CWX approaches time trial bike-like levels of pace.

But it’s not just on the flat where the Xeon impresses. On rolling roads and through turns, the CWX’s steep geometry makes for a rapid-handling bike with instantaneous responses to steering inputs. Its DX 1650 disc wheels weigh 1650g (there’s a clue in the name), and with the Continental GP 4000s II tyres, they make for a light and lively setup, helping the CWX on hills.

The racy 52/36, 11-28 gear combo gives a low enough bottom gear for climbs without compromising flat-road speed, and the Ultegra drivetrain is matched to equally impressive Shimano hydraulics in the form of its class-leading RS805 brakes equipped with 160mm Ice-Tech rotors. The result is the usual superb control and noise-free braking.

We’re fans of the Ritchey Streem bar’s drop and its swept-back tops. And the Selle Italia SLS saddle is well padded with a good shape, though the glossy covering meant we did slip around a little following a liberal downpour of rain.

The CWX’s ride is on the firm side, communicating the road surface and potholes to you, and ruts are met with a solid ‘thunk’. However, this firmness feels somehow right for the bike. With its sharp handling and rapid responses we welcomed the information coming through the chassis and excellent tyres, letting us read grip levels as our speed stayed high.
