Another month and yet another reason to dive back into Rockstar’s brilliantly realised faux LA – or, more accurately, its settings menus. Yes, 1080p is a given, but the hunt for a stable 60fps means an evening spent pausing and unpausing, tweaking settings one at a time until we give up, whack everything up to full, and turn off the FPS counter. Blissful ignorance has never looked so good.

Guitar Hero Live’s announcement was the perfect excuse to call for a rewind on Freestyle’s original three-finger music game. The turntable controller is a wonderfully tactile bit of kit, and while its soundtrack is, on paper, more divisive than any guitar game, it’s all been mashed up into a clever, coherent selection. It deserved better than to sink beneath the weight of dozens of lesser plastic-instrument games on release.

There are many things one should not do after a few drinks: driving, operating heavy machinery, the weekly supermarket shop, and so on. To that list we can now add loading PAD during a Godfest, when the game’s most powerful monsters are more likely to drop from the monetised Rare Egg Machine. We awoke the next morning with a sore head, a handful of new gods, and an iTunes receipt for £20 in our inbox.
