Another month and yet another reason to dive back into Rockstar’s brilliantl­y realised faux LA – or, more accurately, its settings menus. Yes, 1080p is a given, but the hunt for a stable 60fps means an evening spent pausing and unpausing, tweaking settings one at a time until we give up, whack everything up to full, and turn off the FPS counter. Blissful ignorance has never looked so good.

Guitar Hero Live’s announceme­nt was the perfect excuse to call for a rewind on Freestyle’s original three-finger music game. The turntable controller is a wonderfull­y tactile bit of kit, and while its soundtrack is, on paper, more divisive than any guitar game, it’s all been mashed up into a clever, coherent selection. It deserved better than to sink beneath the weight of dozens of lesser plastic-instrument games on release.

There are many things one should not do after a few drinks: driving, operating heavy machinery, the weekly supermarke­t shop, and so on. To that list we can now add loading PAD during a Godfest, when the game’s most powerful monsters are more likely to drop from the monetised Rare Egg Machine. We awoke the next morning with a sore head, a handful of new gods, and an iTunes receipt for £20 in our inbox.
