Dotted throughout levels are three shiny cogs, and a host of coins. You’ll need the former for new boilers, every ten unlocking a new tank with a mild variation on steam capacity, offensive or defensive buffs, and perhaps a gentle healing effect. Coins, however, are a more pressing concern, spent at green save stations to restore either your unit or whole team’s health and steam, the latter costing considerably more. Saving your pennies, then, can grant another go, and this can be vital to even the odds. Since you can retrace your steps and reclaim your steam, try to pass through any coins in range before positioning yourself to fire. Be especially wary of ambushes, though, since overwatch shots will rob you of the steam you might otherwise get back.
