TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Intimacy can be a difficult aspect to capture in a still image. Matteo provides his insight into the best ways to get started in portrait and travel photography
1 GET THE SUBJECT INVOLVED
To beginners I would always suggest showing your pictures to your subject. If at all possible, make a print and give it to them – it will make them happy and feel respected. If you can’t, show your images from the LCD.
2 STAY POSITIVE
Another suggestion is to never be discouraged. Some days you take wonderful shots and some days less wonderful shots.
3 BE PATIENT
As I wrote earlier, patience and optimism are essentials when trying to make a picture.
4 TAKE SOME TIME TO STOP
Put your camera down sometimes and enjoy the moment. It helps you relax and see things from different angles.
5 KIT ISN’T EVERYTHING
While gear is important, it is not the most important factor. It doesn’t matter what type of camera you own, you can take incredible pictures with any camera. Invest more in travel and less in gear.
6 ENJOY YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY
Most importantly try not to lose the fun of it. Photography is great – it pushes me out of my house on boring days and I have so much fun playing with this wonderful medium.
