BIT DEPTH AND FRAME RATES
something that will be of interest to videographers is the frame rates that are available for recording moving footage, and the bit rate and chroma subsampling possible with each – particularly as Panasonic has put work into making the GH5s superior to the GH5 here.
essentially, the GH5s mirrors the GH5 in capturing videos at DCi 4K, uHD 4K and Full HD resolutions, but it also adds the option of recording at 60/50, 30p and 25p frame rates when capturing both flavours of 4K video. By comparison, the GH5’s DCi 4K option tops out at 24p, with only the lower-resolution uHD 4K option allowing for those higher frame rates.
The GH5s also lets the user capture 10-bit 4:2:2 footage at up to 30p internally, and 10-bit 4:2:2 externally via the HDmi port, but if you want to capture 60p footage internally you can only do so at an 8-bit 4:2:0 option. simultaneous internal and external output is also possible at these settings.
