Nik Collection was a popular suite of Photoshop and Lightroom plugins with Silver Efex Pro being a favourite amongst many monochrome photographers. However, after a period of neglect by its owners since 2012 (Google) it had compatibility issues and was buggy. Thankfully DxO bought it in early 2017 and has spent months ironing out all the issues. As a result, it’s now back to its former glory, the installation is straightforward and the packages run smoothly.

As well as enabling easy local or global colour adjustments and sophisticated monochrome conversions, Nik Collection offers simple-to-use tools for making local noise-reduction and sharpening adjustments, especially useful for low-light photography. The adjustments are applied as a layer so you can paint the edits onto your image and adjust the opacity as you go. It makes Nik Collection a powerful suite of tools and extremely good value at $69.
