SNAP ON THE STREET

Important steps for successful street photography

-

1 AIM TO FRAME If you can take the shot with the camera to your eye, you will usually compose it better than from the hip. If you have a flip-out screen this is often a better option to be more covert when in close range of subjects.

2 ALWAYS SHOOT RAW Your image is captured in colour, and you can later convert the image into a monochrome version, with more additional options to further enhance your photo using RAW editing software.

3 AUTO IS YOUR FRIEND switch between manual and automatic modes if time is of the essence. sometimes auto does the job for split-second moments. If you have time to compose and expose for an image, using manual may be a better option.

4 TRY TO AVOID ATTENTION turn off any beeps, red-eye lights and any loud shutter noises if your camera has the option to do so. the least attention you attract the better when you are out shooting on the streets.

5 FREEZE THE ACTION Be careful not to shoot at too slow a shutter speed if motion blur is not your intention, typically shooting 1/200 or above. You can do this by increasing your IsO number and/or adjusting your aperture to a wider f-stop.

6 MOVING TARGETS Use Burst mode shooting when a subject is not static and you want to capture them at a certain point in your composition. there is a better chance of success with this method over single-shot mode.
