It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nikos Steiropoul­os who died suddenly on December. Nikos was born to Athanasios and Millia Steiropoul­os in and throughout his younger years was a keen and respected learner. His love for books and travel inspired him and his knowledge left a presence wherever he went.

Nikos began his veterinary training at Aristotle University in dhessaloni­ki, before moving to the UK to complete an MSc in Aquatic Veterinary at the University of Stirling and an MBA in Business Administra­tion at the University of Huddersfie­ld. Most recently, Nikos qualified as an Advanced Veterinary Practition­er in Fish Health and Production attained from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

tith a career spanning more than ears, Nikos has been an invaluable member of the aquacultur­e industry, with roles throughout the supply chain. Most recently, Nikos led the aquacultur­e business at MSD Animal Health UK and expanded into the poultry and swine integrated customer base.

“Nikos’ passion and dedication to fish health and welfare made him a respected and valued colleague within MSD Animal Health’s lobal aquacultur­e business. His expertise and care were recognised across the industry as he endeavoure­d to deliver the best for both customers and fish wellbeing. He will be deeply missed,” said Kasha Cox, aquacultur­e business director at MSD Animal Health lobal.

Adding to this, Rebecca eenty, business unit director for integrated livestock at MSD Animal Health UK said, “Nikos was a consummate profession­al and a true gentleman, his drive and determinat­ion to support his customers and his team was second to none. Nikos was passionate about the aquacultur­e and wider animal health industry and we will miss him greatly.”

Nikos was a great profession­al particular­ly at bringing people together. Our years together led to fruitful science and long-lasting friendship. He touched many people and we all benefitted from his vision. I will sorely miss our friendship, my deepest condolence­s to his family.”

Dario Mascolo, president of the Fish Veterinary Society (FVS) to which Nikos was a former member and president said: “I and his fellow FVS members will really miss Nikos’ good-humoured input into our society and his profession­al approach to the issues we worked on together. His input reflected both his keen interest in fish health and welfare and his pride in his profession. te are shocked to have lost him.”

Many others have described Nikos as “a great profession­al”, “full of integrity and dedicated to his profession” and “enthusiast­ic with unwavering kindness”.

Nikos is survived by his wife, Christina, and his two daughters Dafni and Aimilia. Nikos will be remembered as an accomplish­ed profession­al, loving husband and father, whose determinat­ion and drive has helped to shape UK aquacultur­e. All his plans and dreams will continue to be fulfilled no matter how ambitious, and his presence will always remain in the thoughts of those who knew him.
