is be­ing built in a bid to dis­cover the mys­ter­ies of the uni­verse.

The com­puter, be­ing de­signed by IBM and set to be­come the most pow­er­ful ma­chine in his­tory, will be able to process twice as much in­for­ma­tion ev­ery day as cur­rently ex­ists on the whole of the in­ter­net.

By ex­am­in­ing ra­dio waves from outer space, which can see 13bil­lion years into the past and all the way back to the dawn of time, it will try to un­ravel the ori­gin of the uni­verse.

In Dou­glas Adams’s book

– also a 2005 film star­ring Martin Free­man – a com­puter called Deep Thought ex­ists to an­swer the same ques­tions, and fa­mously comes up with the an­swer 42.
