Winter grooming for mid-lifers, by Adrian Clark

-

Good winter grooming is all about hydration. Moving in and out of the cold and airconditioned spaces requires the next level of skin- and haircare. A restorative and replenishing hair conditioner is vital. British brand Doers of London has the deeply nourishing “Keep Your Head in the Game”, which helps restore shine. For thinning hair, scalp maintenance is essential: go for the Aesop (from Australia) Sage & Cedar Scalp Treatment; a preshampoo oil with botanicals.

Most men prefer lighter moisturisers, but richer creams perform better in harsher weather. Margatebased Haeckels use local Kent ingredients in its Eco Marine Cream moisturiser, which is abundant in Omega 3. Advanced Renewal by Malin+Goetz includes meadowfoam seed oil, an antioxidant fatty acid that locks in moisture.

Now: lip-balms and salves that fend off chapping. La Roche-Posay’s Cicaplast Barrier Repairing Lip Balm combats extreme dryness, isolates against aggressors and soothes. Super Smooth Lip Balm by the Scandi brand Recipe For Men is made from shea butter, refreshing menthol and beeswax. To avoid cracked hands try Anthony’s Hand Cream, with AHAs, which help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and coconut oil for hydration.

Part-time beard wearers: winter dries out bristles. Murdock London’s Beard Conditioner will both strengthen and soften your whiskers. And for those who prefer a close, clean shave, GilletteLabs has created its first heated wet-razor, which promises a hot-towel-shaveexperience. The stainless steel warming bar heats up in less than a second. Toasty.
