Designer Kellner (Knits for Kitties) blends nature guide with knitting know-how in this fun collection of stuffed animal knits for seasoned crafters.
Description
Welcome to the Morgan family home! Let me give you a tour. Each room in this Victorian household has a special purpose and is favored by a unique feline inhabitant. From the cuddly and adorable Nursery Kittens to Aunt Pru’s Persian, there's a tale behind each kitty companion—and a family member who loves them. From the Cook's Cat to Grandad's Silver Tabby, the Morgans' cats will capture your heart, and the knitting pattern for each will have your needles flying.
There are 20 cats in all, with complete instructions to knit each one. Most of the patterns in this book have sections which are worked flat and sections which are worked in the round, so your attention will always be held. A few of them are geared toward the beginner, with shaping achieved by simple increasing and decreasing. Others are more challenging, but even these will be easily accomplished if undertaken with an adventurous spirit. The Morgans and their kitties are sure to delight all cat-loving knitters!
Reviews
This is a lovely blend of science and craft. Recommended for most public libraries.
I can practically hear them purring!
This book is the ultimate in coziness: a collection of knitting patterns for different kitties, each one inhabiting their ideal space in a Victorian dream home. From the contented parlour cat snoozing by the fire, to the plump cook's cat lapping up the last drop from her dish, these cats bring life to the scenes around them. I was especially impressed by how Ms. Kellner managed to translate the vitality of cats into her knitted creations. The stretching porch cat is so clearly getting ready to yawn that I found myself following suit! Kellner also has some brilliant tricks for capturing color changes on calicos and tabbies; these details really add to a cat's individuality as well as their personality. For cat class and Victorian style, you'll love this book!
The human backstories imbue what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward knitting guide with a healthy dose of personality, and photos of the plush cats amid Victorian decor help sell the vintage feel. This will make a worthy addition to any crafter’s shelf.
