Champagne and MCC – what's the difference?
By law, a sparkling wine can only be called Champagne if it is produced in the Champagne region of France. Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) wines are premium products made in SA according to the traditional French method with a second fermentation in the bottle. Producers adhere to quality standards, including the minimum time the wine must spend on the lees (nine months) in order to be called an MCC.
