MG chases younger buyers with four-car Cyber brand
NEW DETAILS HAVE emerged of MG Motors’ bold plan to boost sales with the formation of a dedicated sub-brand for younger buyers.
The marque is planning a new line of models under the ‘Cyber’ banner and Autocar sources have said the first car will be the all-electric replacement for the 3 supermini, codenamed EH32 and planned to take the name Cybere into production.
They confirm the new hatch will be the first of four models from the Cyber sub-brand, which will be announced by MG at the Beijing motor show in April. The sub-brand’s line-up will include two SUVS, the Cybers (codenamed IP42) and Cyberx (codenamed AS34 ).
A production version of the two-seat MG Cyberster roadster concept is set to crown the new range, possibly with the name Cyberb in a nod to the MGB roadster launched in 1962.
The Cybere hatchback is based on a new dedicated electric car platform that will be used by a number of Saic-owned brands, including Roewe. Suggestions are that it will be offered with a single electric motor in varying outputs and offer a range of up to 500km (311 miles). Autocar also understands the EH32 will offer level-three autonomous driving functionality and 5G connectivity in various markets.
