RAS AL-KHAIMAH

This emirate offers touches of authentic Arabia that its neighbours have long since lost. Just an hour north of Dubai, Ras Al-Khaimah has all the draw of year-round sun, without the hefty price tag. Forget the gaudy cityscapes associated with much of the UAE and opt for golden beaches, rich heritage and a diverse landscape that’s ripe for exploration. Qatar Airways is also opening four new flight paths via Doha to make getting there easier than ever before. The old town bustles with souks and museums, while ruins such as Sheba’s Palace and the abandoned town of Jazirat Al Hamra are swathed in mystery. At the base of the Al Hajar Mountains, the desert’s terracotta dunes are the place to visit for 4x4 safaris and camel riding. Bed down Bedouin-style for a real Middle-Eastern experience.
