WINE LIST
MASTER THE YEAR’S
‘Lesser-known regions will be big this year,’ says Sue Sethi, wine buyer at Gymkhana, Lyle’s, BAO and Trishna. ‘The rise of wine from countries like Croatia, Slovenia and Greece will continue, with a piqued interest from those unknown stretches of established wine-making countries. For example, look out for Sicily’s Mount Etna in Italy. In the New World, we are seeing more focussed regionality and more specific areas of South America such as the Maule Valley in Chile, and Lodi in the US, rather than general, larger zones.
‘Pay particular attention for wine from the Jura in France. It is similar to sherry and aged under flor (a layer of yeast).
‘The rise of less familiar regions will also include some interesting wines styles you might not have tried. When buying wine at home, look for family-owned vineyards. Those with big names attached don’t tend to offer as good value.’
