He said the government stimulus packages announced so far would stave off a disastrous 2020 for the residential sector while softening the impact of COVID-19 on Queensland’s construction industry. Mr Bidwell said building approvals for new dwellings in May 2020 plunged by 7.4 per cent, pushing the 12-month total down 14 per cent. “The state-wide drop confirms what we were hearing prior to the announcement of the state and federal governments’ stimulus packages in June,” Mr Bidwell said. “Early indications have shown an extraordinary response to the Federal Government’s $25,000 Homebuilder Grant and the State Government’s $5000 regional home building boost grant. The stimulus measures mean that a first home buyer who builds new in regional Queensland could be eligible for $45,000 towards their new home.” y e d u The time is right Australian real estate is moving through change.
