The nominee should be an ordinary African who has made extra-ordinary contributi­ons to humanity in any field from any part of the continent. The award covers the work done between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020 Candidates for the award are shortliste­d from a pool of nominees whose profiles and record of contributi­ons have gone through a rigorous process of screening. The work, activity or project done by the nominee should be of impact across the continent (not limited to a country). Presentati­on ceremony for the 2020 edition of the Award will still hold in Abuja, Nigeria, in January, 2021, despite the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, but in adherence with internatio­nally establishe­d protocols.
